As I mentioned in previous sections, my life on my trip suddenly began to have a lot of coincidences starting in Boston and finishing when a few weeks after returning to Seattle. As I was learning more about Puerto Rico other coincidental facts about the item fell into line with what had occurred and I had learned while in the midst of my Puerto Rico experience. Here is an incomplete list of those coincidences.
Have eye to eye contact with a guy I had never met before on the subway train from downtown Boston to Cambridge. See the same guy two days later in a totally different area of town.
Assigned a bed in the Fort Lauderdale Youth Hostel which appeared to be in use but instructed to move his belongings to another bed. Upon arriving late night to use my bed it was in use by Rene who had just traveled the same route I had starting in Boston, then to D.C. and then here to Fort Lauderdale.
On my flight to San Juan from Miami the gate attendant took my San Juan/Miami ticket instead of my Miami/San Juan ticket.
My business friend Tami's husband happened to be flying to Puerto Rico on his way to Dominica with his son the same day I need to talk to him about forming a cellular company in the Caribbean and he also had work experience with the telephone system (ATT).
Borinquen or Borikén or Boricua - is the word Puerto Ricans use to refer to themselves. From Wikipedia, it was the original ’s indigenous Taíno name for the island, which means "Land of the Valiant Lord". Is the entity the 'Valiant Lord'?
San Juan is Puerto Rico & Puerto Rico is San Juan – this one I learned within a month or so of my trip to Puerto Rico. The full name given to the island by Christopher Columbus (“Cristoforo Colombo" or "Cristóbal Colón") upon discovery (if you can call it a discovery) was ‘La Isla de San Juan Bautista’ and this is how people would refer to the island for some time. The good portage harbor was named appropriately “Puerto Rico”. Eventually the long name of the island became tiresome and the name of the island became simply “San Juan”. And at some point further on for no explained reason the name of the port and the and the name of the island became interchanged – San Juan the island became Puerto Rico and Puerto Rico became San Juan.
Upon arriving in the “new land”, Columbus eventually was brought to meet one of the local leader (caciqui) of the island. This leader’s name was Agüeybana. To honor Columbus in a ceremony after meeting, Agüeybana gave Columbus the most prized possession he could – his own name. Christopher Columbus became Agüeybana and Agüeybana became Christopher Columbus. (I was unable to find my reference for this so I will research further – it may have been a different caciqui and possibly Ponce de Leon instead of Columbus).
The entity met Magdalena Maria, the police chief of the mall at which I was detained. Upon the entity’s quizzing her on her name she admitted she had changed her name from Maria Magdalena to Magdalena Maria.
So, what did MCI have to do with this story? I’m still not so sure of this one but my feeling is it has something to do with the internet since MCI was and still is the owner of the main backbone of the internet (someone out there might have a better explanation for this than myself – please contact me to let me know). Bill McGowan was the primary force in the creation of MCI and his favorite place to visit when he had time was Puerto Rico. And his favorite place to visit in Puerto Rico was 'The Reef Bar' at the east end of Isla Verda or the start of Piñones.
According to the book On The Line: The Men of MCI--Who Took on AT&T, Risked Everything, and Won by Larry Kahaner, Bill, like myself, had become stranded his first time in Puerto Rico during Easter week along with many others who’s flights were oversold. He however successfully charted a private plane and sold seats to other stranded passengers in the airport.
The city of San Juan, Puerto Rico is the southern tip of ‘The Bermuda Triangle’.
Robert & Nurettin arrive early morning (5 a.m.–ish) at the Greenbriar Hostel in Miami Beach and are walking down the hall just as I am getting up and walk out to the lobby. They nor I had any idea the other was going to be staying at the Greenbriar Hostel.
Tracy Chapman song “Love is hate, war is peace, no is yes, we’re all free matches the ideas the entity is giving me during my encounter.
The entity was searching for days for John the Fishermen after encountering several of the other circle of men of Jesus. He encounters a man fishing from the bridge at the exit of the Marina and greets him directly as John the Fisherman. His wife standing not far off of the right of him at the end of the bridge is awed that the entity would know his name for indeed his name was John the Fisherman (but Juan el Pescador of course).
